Resident Medical Officer (RMO) is the easiest and the most popular way for overseas doctors to get into the UK Healthcare System.
Working as RMO gives you opportunities to travel, to spend time with your family, to study for your medical exams or to work on a research during your 2 weeks off, whilst earning an excellent salary.
RMO is one of the most important staff members within the Independent Healthcare Sector.
RMOs work with elective surgical inpatients and their main responsibility is to cover the ward, conducting regular ward rounds and ensuring all patients are well looked after. Any change or concern in a patient's condition are reported to the consultants and their instructions are followed in respect of further treatment.
Although most of the RMOs have no contact with ITU or emergency units, RMO is expected to lead the resuscitation team in very rare event of cardiac event for which ALS/EPALS courses will be arranged if candidates don't already have ALS/EPALS certificates.
2 years of postgraduate experience (including Internship or Foundation training)
Candidates must be eligible for GMC registration
Must be competent in cannulating patients, blood taking, catheterisations and ECG interpretations
Minimum 6 months contract
The RMOs normally work on week, on week off rotations (1:1). Whilst there are other variations of this pattern available, 1:1 rotations
present the safest working conditions whilst providing the doctors with consolidated blocks of work to minimise their need to travel.
Hospitals provide free on-duty accommodation, meals and internet access.
